At the site of the 'Indonesia Export & Certification Forum' held at Incheon Songdo Convensia, a Halal certification awarding ceremony for restaurants in the Jeju region was held.
In this event, four Jeju restaurants—OReum Seafood, Biwon Samgyetang, Crab Story, and MuhanJeong—received official Indonesian Halal certificates, marking a meaningful first step for Jeju to advance as a Muslim-friendly dining and tourism destination.
This award ceremony was held on the afternoon of November 13 as part of a special program of the 2025 Global Influencer Expo.
The forum was co-hosted by the HPN-KOREA Committee, the economic association under NU—Indonesia's largest Islamic organization (HPN), Indonesia's state-owned enterprise PT SUCOFINDO, and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN Indonesia).
A large number of officials from public institutions of Korea and Indonesia, as well as representatives from the distribution and tourism industries and influencers, attended and showed great interest.
On this day, PT. SUCOFINDO and HPN-K delivered the official certificates and jointly expressed their plan to foster Jeju as a representative region that Indonesian and Islamic tourists can visit with confidence.
Starting with the four restaurants newly listed—OReum Seafood, Biwon Samgyetang, Crab Story, and MuhanJeong—the two sides agreed to gradually promote the expansion of certification and the establishment of networks for additional restaurants and cafés in Jeju.
At the award ceremony, the PT SUCOFINDO side stated, 'Since Jeju has already established itself as a leading tourist destination in Asia, it will become a very attractive travel destination for Muslim tourists when restaurants and services equipped with halal certification are added.'
They further emphasized that 'the certification of the four Jeju restaurants this time is a symbolic starting point for tourism and dining cooperation between Indonesia and Jeju.'
An HPN-K representative also stated, 'This award ceremony goes beyond the achievements of the four individual restaurants in the Jeju region and is the first step toward making all of Jeju a Muslim-friendly K-food tourism destination.'
They added, 'Going forward, we will systematically link halal dining courses, tourism products, and influencer-connected promotions centered around certified restaurants such as OReum Seafood, Biwon Samgyetang, Crab Story, and MuhanJeong.
And HPN-K stated that through this award ceremony, it completed the Indonesian official halal certification for the four restaurants selected as the first group in the Jeju region, and that eight locations selected as the second group (hotels, restaurants, cafés, etc.) are preparing additional certification through on-site inspections by local institutions in December.
It explained that, as of now, a total of about 20 candidate locations for halal certification throughout Jeju are being organized and prepared step by step, thereby laying the foundation for Jeju to take a leap forward as a representative tourist destination equipped with Muslim-friendly accommodation and dining infrastructure.
Based on these preparations, HPN-K forecasted that 'the full-scale beginning of Muslim tourism in Jeju will start from the first quarter of 2026.
In the industry, it is expected that, with this occasion of the halal certification being awarded in Jeju, the number of Muslim tourists visiting Jeju—including those from Indonesia—will gradually increase, and that positive ripple effects will appear in the local restaurant, lodging, and shopping sectors.
In particular, as the names of the restaurants that received halal certification become officially known, there is also the possibility that this may lead to the creation of a 'Jeju Halal Restaurant Map' and the composition of Muslim-specialized travel products in the future
The event organizers stated, 'We will expand the Indonesian halal certification model that began in Jeju to other regions and sectors, and strengthen support so that Korea's small and medium-sized dining and tourism industries can be more closely connected with the Southeast Asian Muslim market.'
They added, 'We will continue to hold additional certification ceremonies and joint promotions in cooperation with relevant Indonesian institutions going forward.
